INTERMEDIATE INTERIOR DESIGNER - TORONTO

We are currently seeking to fill Intermediate Interior Designer positions at our Toronto studio. Successful candidates should consider themselves highly creative and this creativity and passion for design is demonstrated in your outstanding portfolio.

Candidates should also have experience executing projects from concept design through to construction. Previous experience in luxury hospitality and retail environments is a must. We seek designers with Big Ideas and the ability to understand the subtlety and detail required to execute international luxury projects.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: To execute most phases of the production of a project with supervision from Project Leaders and Team Leader. Has a basic understanding of current Yabu Pushelberg Design goals and expectations. With the guidance of a team Leader or Project Leader, able to understand the client and operators requests, needs and desires and has the ability to follow through on them within the context of producing a YP design. Has the ability to mentor Junior Interior Designers.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

CONCEPT
- Collaborate in the development of concept design through planning, sketching, rendering
- Select directional images, and finishes

SCHEMATIC
- Acquire and coordinate samples from vendors
- Formulate furniture direction
- Further develop concept design with sketches, thumbnails, plans and the creation of specialty finishes
- Refine finish selections

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
- Flush out and refine the approved design language into build-able drawings
- Assist in any information the Spec department may require
- Review and implement design specifications with the Spec department, re: FF&E, hardware, plumbing, and architectural finishes
- Coordinate with outside project consultants such as lighting, MEP, Structural, Signage, kitchen consultants etc., as necessary to complete a well-coordinated project

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
- Work with Project Management in the development of specialty custom built items
- Develop a complete drawing package, including detailing, elevations, and plans to YP Standards
- Compilation and finalization of all FF&E pieces with sufficient information to pass through to the Specification Department
- Develop a small drawing package including full design intent of all millwork and custom furniture as per YP Standards
- Continue Coordination with outside project consultants such as lighting, MEP, Structural, Signage, kitchen consultants etc., as necessary to complete a well-coordinated project
- Review and implement necessary changes and additions with the Spec department, re: FF&E, hardware, plumbing, and architectural finishes

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION
- Provide sufficient information when requested by the Project Management team in the development of budgets
- Answer vendor/contractor’s questions
- Review Shop Drawings and Submittals
- Provide site clarifications when necessary


QUALIFICATIONS (necessary skills and experience required):
- At minimum an Associate’s Degree in a related field of Design (Interior design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Fashion design, etc.)
- 3+ years of work experience necessary
- Adequate Knowledge of the Interior Design Profession
- Previous experience in luxury hospitality and retail environments is a must
- AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch up and b+w hand rendering skills are necessary for the position Additional 3D software skills are an asset

RECEPTIONIST / OFFICE COORDINATOR - NEW YORK

We are currently seeking to fill a full-time Receptionist/Office Coordinator position at our New York studio. Successful candidates should consider themselves a team player, highly organized, efficient, self-motivated, excellent communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: the primary function of the Receptionist/Office Coordinator is to maintain the telephone system, greet various clients, parties and visitors to the office, as well as perform basic office and accounting administrative functions.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBITY:

- Manage multi-line telephone system and route calls as appropriate
- Receive incoming courier packages and prepare outgoing packages
- Process daily incoming and outgoing mail
- Greet all visitors by offering refreshments; inform appropriate staff of their arrival
- Manage boardroom bookings
- Assist with catering for meetings: order, set-up, clean-up
- Keep kitchen stocked with grocery items, ie. Milk, coffee, tea, sugar, etc.
- Match invoices with packing/order slips and provide to accounting
- Enter some invoice into accounting software
- Prepare vendor cheques for mailing
- Assist with administrative overflow when required
- Ensure that ALL supplies are stocked and order when required, ie. Washroom items, all stationary items including paper, pens, drafting materials, printer and plotter ink, business cards, etc.
- Petty cash disbursement and reconciliation
- Bank deposits
- Prepare travel files as organized by the Travel Manager
- Monitor cleaning company and office maintenance
- Organize staff social events

JUNIOR INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER/FURNITURE DESIGNER - TORONTO

The overall scope of the role will be to assist in the development of furniture, fixtures and products. The successful candidate will have a basic understanding of current Yabu Pushelberg Design goals and expectations and with the guidance of a Team Leader/Project Leader, is able to understand client and operator requests, needs and desires and has the ability to follow through on them within the context of producing YP design.

Key areas of responsibility:

- Concept/Schematic
- Design Development
- Construction Documents
- Construction Administration

Qualifications (necessary skills and experience required):

- Graduate of a 4 year degree or equivalent diploma in Industrial or Furniture design program.
- 2+ years of work experience necessary.
- Previous experience in luxury hospitality and retail environments is an asset.
- Proficient in 3d modeling software: SolidWorks or Rhino, knowledge of associated rendering packages and/or plug-ins.
- Strong sketching ability, visualization skills, and a keen sense of proportion.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and techniques; with hands on experience building furniture and products.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), strong graphic and presentation skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to switch and prioritize between several projects or tasks at once, working well both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to switch between different design genres and styles, on a project-to-project basis.
