American Express entrusted global design studio, Yabu Pushelberg to design the first Centurion property in America, a coveted experience dedicated to connection. Located at One Vanderbilt in Manhattan, perched on the 55th floor, the destination is immersed in the cityscape, welcoming guests into a 360º embrace of the island and beyond, creating the ultimate sense of belonging.

Inspired by the art of hosting, Yabu Pushelberg designed Centurion New York through the eyes of a modern salonniere. Drawn to the history of connectivity, the studio developed a character study of a salonniere to guide the attitude and visual direction of Centurion New York.

Historically, salonnieres were the curators guiding culture forward. Defined as “typically ladies with savoir-faire that acted as agent provocateurs, selecting the topics, defining the decorum, and leading the discussion. Their guests joined to exchange ideas and elicited debate.” Using intellect, charm, and perception, these hosts welcomed guests on a journey of discovery.

Today, Yabu Pushelberg is honoring the craft by producing a layered experience that anchors these qualities and characteristics into the fabric of the Centurion New York experience. Defined through interior, furniture, art, styling, and master planning, the studio crafted a visual language that progresses into a range of experiences, welcoming guests into grand moments of wonder and intimate pockets of exploration.

Yabu Pushelberg creates immersive environments and designs considered products. George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg founded the studio in 1980 with a focus on interior design and have since expanded into a multidisciplinary practice that addresses multiple layers of the human experience.
