Novel Notoriety

Mori needed a novel idea to set this project apart from others, including the two additional towers it was developing within the same eight hectare district. At the same time, the team required something with established brand presence and status to support a premium.

Elevated yet Grounded

Our client sought a literal and figurative crown for Mori JP Tower, the tallest building in Japan. With an emphasis on connectivity, culture, and nature, the upper level residences needed to stay linked to the people and surroundings of the new village below.

Partner Pairing

We proposed that Mori collaborate with Aman to launch their first branded residences. Leveraging the Aman's prestige and status to create market attention, while the exclusivity of the inaugural residential offering would captivate the real estate market.

Sea to Sky Storytelling

“The design of Aman Residences, Tokyo is an exploration of the relationship between the land, sea, and sky. These elements work in harmony to convey the Aman lifestyle and the design sensibilities of Japan. Nature plays a key role in Japanese culture, and we felt the most honest way of communicating the intention behind the Aman Residences, Tokyo was by honoring that.”

— Glenn Pushelberg

The Connection Connected

The residences sold out, with the penthouse reaching the highest recorded value for a Japanese residential property at one hundred forty million dollars, far surpassing its guide price of fifty million dollars. The project also received Interior Design magazine’s Best of Year Award.

"Traditional Japanese spatial concepts are reinterpreted through contemporary materials and technologies, while Western notions of comfort are refined through Japanese principles of restraint. The result is neither strictly Japanese nor Western, but rather a new vocabulary of luxury that speaks to global sensibilities while remaining grounded in local context."
